I strongly oppose the proposed changes to the Endangered Species Act and the introduction of the Species Conservation Act, 2025. These amendments prioritize development over conservation, weaken habitat protections, remove science-based recovery planning, and give the government dangerous discretion over species listings. Shifting to a registration-first model without proper oversight puts vulnerable species at greater risk. Ontario has a responsibility to protect biodiversity—not undermine it for short-term economic gain.
