I disagree with the aspects of the bill that say ministers, deputy ministers and other ministry officials make decisions about species at risk. Having scientists do this is a protection put there for a reason. They know they study and assess. Ontario should pride itself in making evidence based decisions not political knee jerk ones like our neighbours to the south.
In addition eliminating protections in the ring of fire gives us this short term benefit but devastates Indigenous lands and without a science first outlook it will likely destroy countless species. Indigenous populations should control how to develop the lands on which they live. It is in their and the all Ontarians best interest. Their prosperity and protection of Ontario land. water and the species that inhabit them is the basis of prosperity for all Ontarians in the long run. We as a province are too rich to allow short term government cycles to determine how we ldevelop.
