Economic considerations should never supersede the health and well-being of Ontarians, particularly up-and-coming generations, or the health and well-being of the ecosystems we are part of.
The connection between increased flooding, extreme heat, severe and unprecedented weather systems and the destruction of natural environments becomes clearer every day.
What we're learning more about is the connection between the destruction of natural environments and our physical and mental health - particularly for youth. No amount of economic development will address this outrageous failure our society shares responsibility for.
The basic truth is that humans and natural systems only thrive when they thrive in unison.
Legislation that ignores this fact is wrong and harmful.
As elected representatives of Ontarians, all MPPs hold the responsibility, the authority, and the accountability to set policy and make decisions that make our lives better. We entrust you with our tax dollars and we deserve to be heard, not talked down to.
This legislation pushes us in the wrong direction. It should be retracted, or at the very least, defeated.
