I strongly oppose the removal of the Environmental Assessment (EA) requirement for the proposed landfill in Dresden, Ontario.
This site is 500 metres from homes, 800 metres from a school, and located next to wetlands, floodplain, and farmland. It sits above the Kettle Point aquifer — the same formation involved in the 2021 Wheatley explosion.
Documents obtained by Dresden CARED from York1's own documents submitted to the ministry of environment show how methane gas is at explosive levels and is already present at this site.
Removing the EA is reckless, especially when York1’s own filings confirm:
No clear waste volume or site limit exists
No approved Operations Plan is in place
No confirmation of soil stability or geotechnical safety
The project includes asbestos waste and other hazardous materials
Between 2023-2021 It’s was used as a police bomb/gun range with no full environmental review and not an expansion of an already existing dump /landfill.
It was only ever used as a fly ash waste for the town incinerator from 1970- to early 1980s.
There is no justifiable reason to exempt this site from a full Environmental Assessment — and every reason to uphold public safety, environmental science, and transparency.
I call on the Ministry to:
Reject Bill 5’s exemption clause for this site
Immediately reinstate the full Environmental Assessment
Honor commitments made to the community in 2024
We’ve already seen what happens when explosive gases are ignored. Don’t let Dresden become another Wheatley

This entire region does not want this. Live up to your promises!!
