I strongly oppose the removal of the environmental assessment requirement for the proposed landfill Dresden in Ontario.

This site is 500 metres from homes and 800 metres from a school and located next to wetlands, a flood plain and land. There are actually a number of houses that are right outside the entrance of this property.

It’s above the kettle point aquifer, the same formation involved in the 2021 Wheatley explosion. Information obtained by Dresden cared from York 1’s own documents submitted to the ministry of environment shows how methane gas is at explosive levels and is already present at this site.

Removing the environmental assessment is reckless especially when New York 1’s own filing confirms:

No clear waste volume or site limit exists
No approved operations plan exist

No confirmation of soil stability or geotechnical safety

Project includes asbestos waste and other hazardous products

Between 2021 and 2023 it was used as a gun and bomb range without a full environmental review

It is not an expansion of an already existing dump as York 1 wants everyone to believe.

It was only ever used for fly ash waste from the towns incinerator from 1970 to 80s

There is no justifiable reason to exempt this site from a full environmental assess and every reason uphold public safety, environmental science and transparency

I called on the Ministry to reject bill 5’s exemption clause for this site

Immediately reinstate the full environmental assessment

Honour the commitments made to the community in 2024

We have already seen what happens when explosive gases are ignored. Please don’t let Dresden become another Wheatly.

Remember Doug Ford’s words in March 2024
“If the people like something we do it. If the people don’t like something, we don’t do it”

The entire region is against this. Please live up to your commitment and the constituents of this region.

There needs to be a full environmental assessment.
