To whom it concerns,
I strongly oppose the Special Economic Zones Act. This act will push through development without the proper checks to ensure that proposed activities will not cause long-term and irreversible harm to the environment and species at risk. I do not believe that laws and regulations designed to protect the environment and species at risk are a hindrance to quick development; I think they are necessary to ensure the long-term sustainability of development in Ontario and the protection of environments that support both thriving plant and animal communities, and thriving human communities. The Government of Ontario is responsible for ensuring that developers obey laws and regulations so that their activities do not cause harm to the ecosystems that Ontario's people and wildlife depend on. If the Government of Ontario gives developers the right to disobey environmental laws and regulations, they are abandoning their responsibility to the people of Ontario to ensure a healthy environment. Development must proceed sustainably, and in order to do this, developers need more oversight, not less.
