It`s not fair that plastic waste producers -- unlike any other segment of society -- should get a break from "higher-than-expected costs" of implementing something they knew, five years ago, was coming on January 1 2026.

The "higher-than-expected" costs of plastic waste pickup, the health costs of increasing amounts of microplastics in our air, water and soil won't go away. If the Blue Box Regulation is amended as proposed, the only people who will get a break are the plastic waste producers. The rest of us will have to pick up the slack.

But we taxpayers aren't the ones who control how much plastic waste is produced. It's unfair to give waste producers a cost break which we then have to cover.

It`s especially not fair that producers of "flexible" plastic packaging should be allowed to reduce the recovery target from the 25% announced in 2021 to just 5%. Reducing the target gives them no (zero, 0) incentive to eliminate unnecessary packaging.

The proposed amendment is too lop-sided. It benefits only the people who produce the waste in the first place. It should NOT be implemented.
