Water is a finite resource. Ground water, being out of sight, especially needs to be monitored particularly in times of drought and particularly because recharge areas for aquifers are being degraded by loss of wetlands and development. To fail to recognise these facts is gross negligence. Water taking permits should always be fully reviewed in order to prevent such negligence no matter the industry involved. Full opportunity for consultation should also be done with all and any in the affected watershed especially with regard to any lakes or streams that could be de-watered or heated by the removal of a reliable cold water source. We do not “own” the water, we are merely custodians of it for future generations and to fail to protect it is inexcusable.
