Wasaga Beach Provincial Park is one of the last remaining nesting grounds for the endangered Piping Plover in Ontario. These tiny shorebirds have made a fragile comeback since 2007, thanks to years of careful stewardship and protection. It is our duty to preserve the habitat of our native species not only to maintain diversity, but for future generations of Ontarians. The proposed sale of parts of the provincial park for development is a flagrant money grab by the Province and goes against the spirit and mandate of provincial parks in Ontario. The current protections for piping plovers and their nesting ground must at all costs be preserved. No amount of tourist revenue can ever make up for the loss of this vital habitat.
