Although he campaigns on promises of building (houses, roads, infrastructure), Premier Doug Ford will go down in history as a destroyer.
First he repealed critical protection through the Endangered Species Act when he rammed Bill 5 through the legislature. And now he is championing the sale of Wasaga Beach Provincial Park to to well-connected, wealthy developers putting greed and ambition ahead of the interests the people, public places and wildlife.
In addition to being a world renown summer destination, Wasaga Beach Provincial Park includes one of the last remaining nesting grounds for the endangered Piping Plover in Ontario. These tiny shorebirds have made a fragile comeback since 2007, thanks to years of careful stewardship and protection but Premier Ford and developers are prepared to sacrifice them - and then another species will be lost forever.
I stand with the citizens of Wasaga, Ontario’s parks and the Piping Plovers in opposition to Premier Ford's plan change yet another law to make it easier to sell off any provincial park to developers.
