Please do not make the proposed changes to the governance of Nancy Island and to Wasaga Beach Provincial Park in general. Our natural environment sorely needs protection - have you not experienced the impact of climate change yourself? We need to not only maintain existing provincial parks, but expand them. In addition to protecting various plant and animal species, and keeping our ground water and our air clean, Ontarians need free, easily accessible nature areas for recreation.
Wasaga Beach Provincial Park and Nancy Island in particular have been enjoyed by many Ontarians for decades. Let's keep it that way.
Economic development of the town of Wasaga Beach must be achieved in other ways. Whether this is by making it an attractive remote work town for the young, or a healthcare-facility brimming retirement community for the old, keeping the provincial park intact is essential to retaining the attraction of the destination. Selling off some land for development is a very short term fix and boost to the local budget. We need long-term strategies that take into account demographic trends and trends in industry.
