Wasaga Beach Provincial Park isn’t just a summer destination, it’s one of the last remaining nesting grounds for the endangered Piping Plover in Ontario. These tiny shorebirds have made a fragile comeback since 2007, thanks to years of careful stewardship and protection. Now, all that is at risk.
If it isn’t bad enough that Ford repealed critical protection through the Endangered Species Act when he rammed Bill 5 through the legislature. Now, Ford’s government has proposed selling chunks of Wasaga Beach Provincial Park for development. That land includes critical nesting habitat for the Piping Plover, which could be lost forever if this goes through. This can’t be allowed.
The Ford government cannot be allowed to change the law to make it easier to sell off any provincial park to developers. This would be a travesty to our province, and entire country, and we would never recover from that devastation. We need our provincial parks to remain as is.
