The Government has a history of putting private interests ahead of the public good, weakening environmental protections to benefit developers and large corporations while ignoring the rights of Indigenous communities and the will of Ontarians. Ontario used to be a global leader in climate action, but under this government, we’ve watched protections unravel.
The right to be consulted is not optional, it is a constitutional duty under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Ontario Liberals fully support First Nations in exercising this right. Meaningful consultation leads to stronger partnerships, better outcomes, and long-term investments in jobs, housing, healthcare, infrastructure, and clean water for Indigenous communities.
Ontarians are already living the impacts of the climate emergency — floods, fires, heatwaves, and extreme weather are becoming more frequent and more dangerous. The government continues to dismantle the tools we need to respond.
