I am opposed to selling off sections of Wasaga Beach Provincial Park, which includes vital nesting habitat for the endangered Piping Plover.
The proposed changes to the Provincial Parks and Conservation Reserves Act would not only jeopardize the Piping Plovers at Wasaga Beach but would open the door to privatizing all Ontario parks.
Ontario’s parks are for the public. They exist to protect endangered species, sensitive ecosystems, and the natural spaces that connect our communities and shield us from climate disaster – not to benefit wealthy, well-connected developers.
The proposal to sell off Wasaga Beach Provincial Park needs to be withdrawn, along with the proposed changes to the Provincial Parks and Conservation Reserves Act.
We must reinstate the Endangered Species Act and strengthen protections for the Piping Plover and other at-risk species.
In the face of the global climate crisis, we need to keep Ontario parks in public hands forever.
Our parks serve as reservoirs of diversity and places of refuge for species at-risk at a time when habitats are disappearing due to climate change and human expansion. Our provincial parks also offer spaces for individuals and families to reconnect with nature, and to balance the stress and mental health challenges we all experience at some point in our lives.
Protect the Piping Plovers. Protect Ontario’s parks.
Thank you for your time and attention in this important matter.
