Hamilton needs this housing development. The proposed plan for both towers and townhouses on this lot will create desperately needed affordable housing in a city where homelessness has exploded. CN rail's delays, for years, are not acceptable given the housing crisis. There are people living a block down from the site, just as close to the tracks and therefore just as much in proximity to the noise from the rail yard. Housing already exists near train tracks.
The demand for affordable housing in Hamilton drastically outweighs the supply. The health impacts of homelessness, poverty and chronic stress are clear and housing instability is arguably the most important factor is social determinants of health. I urge the government to consider that delaying affordable housing developments in the downtown core (therefore located near transit and essential services) is deeply irresponsible. The Jamesville site is an excellent location, noise from the rail yard notwithstanding, the benefits drastically outweigh the risks.
Thank you for your time.
