ERO #025-0730 Bill 5 – Water taking permit within Farewell Creek watershed
Water is a finite resource in Farewell Creek watershed, Courtice, Ontario. Currently hundreds of people there are facing water restrictions.
It is the only area in GTA and further where geology of its aquifer is different. Its high but shallow aquifer is underlain by clay that is holding water from precipitation intact. With development or water taking permit
The groundwater redirected from its groundwater flow are negatively impacting 2 large PSW Complexes/ANSIs and local wells. Result of this cause flooding or drying, depending on precipitation.
With water table lowering, useful wildlife that consume pests like mosquitoes, ticks, invasive red ants, blackflies, mosquitoes deer flies, etc. is disappearing and people are subjects to debilitating illnesses like West Nile virus, Lyme disease, etc.
Many people stay inside to avoid these pests and many of them suffer from boredom that causes them to do activities to harm other people (shooting, steeling cars, destroying properties, etc.).
Water taking permit at Courtice Road, tiled farmland at Trulls Road
and any other obstructions to groundwater flow or wells are beginning to show up.
Please, do not allow water taking permits in this or even other watersheds. Not only safety and health of people is threatened, but
well being of all residents are threatened by these activities.
Our thank you for help from our MPP, Hon Todd McCarthy.
Sincerely,
Libby Racansky for FOF
