I am strongly opposed to the proposed new amendments to Ont. Regulation 387/04 under the Ontario Water Resources Act.
The so-called “flexibility” and “restructuring” of the proposed new process of applying for a water-taking permit would in fact eliminate some vital environmental review, and in practice eliminate effective public comment during the application process.
The proposed changes represent a major step backward in sound environmental practices.
In my opinion the apparent motivation behind these proposals will cost the current provincial government heavily in the next election.
