Please reconsider this proposal. Wasaga Beach provides crucial habitat for the Piping Plovers, which is a species considered at risk. Allowing the municipal government more control over this region puts these shore birds and other native species at risk to habitat loss. Wasaga Beach has provided nearly half of the province’s Piping Plovers fledglings since 2007. Organizations like Ontario Parks and Birds Canada have been working to conserve nesting sites and allowing this bill to pass means these birds will no longer have any provincial protection. The biodiversity of native bird, plant and aquatic species should be considered before anything like this is proposed.
