This plan proposal is an abomination to one of the largest freshwater beaches our country has to offer. The so called economic benefits only serve a select few and fatten their pockets (including our premier) while the environmental impacts are completely disregarded. Not only should this provincial park be preserved and maintained but opening it up to increased tourism will only degrade the beach itself, ruining much of the character and natural beauty in the process. Increased popularity is already showcasing negative effects without the grotesque development plans including misuse of bathrooms, decreased water quality, illegal fishing and ridiculous amounts of garbage. What makes this place so great is that it is a somewhat hidden gem in nature that is serene and beautiful and the space needs to be preserved rather than making it the site for hotel and real estate development. The Ford government has an established history of destroying natural areas for profit motives and the proposal at wasaga beach is not at all surprising but the line must be drawn somewhere. While my hopes are incredibly low due to the rampant greed and lack of respect for our natural environment, this proposal is disgusting and disgraceful to Canadians on so many levels and I sincerely hope it does not go forward.
