I am extremely concerned by the changes in proposed Bill 66 that weaken Ontario's environmental rules and regulations. While jobs and opportunity are clearly important for the continued growth of the economy, we do not need to eviscerate our existing environmental protections to ensure that worthy projects can go ahead.
Ontario has a decades long history of legislation that exist to preserve critical environmental assets such as our great lakes, our water supply, and the green belt around the Toronto area that limits urban sprawl. We need to keep these systems in place and continue that protection, or risk our long term economic prospects as well as the health of residents.
I sincerely hope that Ontario MPPs will consider these issues very carefully and make the right choice and remove the environmental exemptions from the Open For Business legislation.
