PUBLIC SPACE at the provincial and federal levels are being TAKEN FROM THE PEOPLE AND GIVEN TO PRIVATE INTERESTS. IT IS A THEFT with no, unproven but most often little benefit to people.
Only in Barrie do residents feel changes in similar circumstances were generally positive. Other areas, like Lakeview village (Port Credit), Grimsby/Niagara, and Cobourg received generally negative responses due to reduced access for locals as a result of private events or simply new policy restricting access to areas that had historically been available to them for spontaneous walks, family events and social gatherings - the area lost it's local character and became crowded, tourist centric spaces leaving locals feeling like outsiders in an area that maybe drew them to the area in the first place.
We know that Wasaga would like to generate revenue - this aligns it's future intentions with the locations noted above where the outcome was negative.
Vague comments from the Mayor are not sufficient. Access to waterfront needs to remain in the hands of people, not organizations that can change purpose and restrict access.
