Ontario parkland is critical. There is no room for negotiation on this topic. With the rising threat of climate crisis, and the expansion of urban development we are rapidly losing access to places to connect with nature and teach our children. Ontario, as a landlocked province has precious few freshwater beaches, and no saltwater beaches. It is difficult and rare of Ontario residents to connect with our watershed already, and the proposed reduction of Wasaga beach parkland only furthers this separation. To ensure that we build a sustainable future for Ontario residents, we need to protect parklands that connect citizens with our watershed, and our nature. Climate protection, access to clean water, ecosystem protection, sustainable agriculture, all begin with and understanding and appreciation of Ontario's nature. We simply cannot afford to lose more parkland to administrative choices, when climate change is already threatening our access to outdoor spaces.
