I disagree with the proposal overall. While I can appreciate the provincial government providing funds to help restore Nancy Island, I believe it should remain under the control of the town.

I oppose selling any part of the beach to developers—at any cost. The longest freshwater beach in the world should belong to the people, not private interests.

Any jobs created by such development would likely be minimum-wage positions, offering little meaningful benefit to local residents. Wasaga’s ambition to become a four-season resort is unrealistic. There is no significant industry in town, nor in nearby cities such as Collingwood and Barrie, to sustain that vision.

Instead, Beaches 1 and 2 could be transformed into a lively amusement area with attractions that draw summer tourists—bringing back the charm and excitement of earlier days.

I am also deeply concerned about the town’s habit of cutting down trees without clear justification. This practice accelerates erosion, increases flooding risk, and threatens to turn the longest freshwater beach into marshland.
