My concerns are about the survival of Piping Plovers. Wasaga Beach is vital breeding habitat for them, when there are few natural beaches left. In order to provide safe habitat for the Piping Plovers to nest and raise their young, I request that the provincial government:
1) provide fenced buffer zones and predator-proof "cages" (with mesh the plovers can get through but gulls, dogs, cats, wild mammals cannot)
2) prohibit mechanical raking of the beach
3) preserve the natural dunes
4) provide ongoing funding for the above
5) consult with scientific experts, such as Birds Canada for the best approaches to conservation of the Piping Plovers.
Thank you.
