I value the province of Ontario's support to assist the town of Wasaga Beach to improve their economic growth and development of tourism. However, I am deeply concerned that Piping plover habitat protection will not be prioritized as development on their nesting habitat will be detrimental. People are drawn to natural areas because of the beauty of nature which includes the species it supports. I am a wildlife biologist and have spent time at the tip of Longpoint and witnessed species that thrive in these habitats that are no longer available as they are in direct competition with humans. This includes turtle nesting habitat as well. I do believe it is possible to educate and co-exist with nature and truly hope that the town of Wasaga Beach will prioritize Piping plover habitat protection in their plans.
