Please withdraw your proposal to sell off sections of Wasaga Beach Provincial Park. Provincial Parks belong to the people of Ontario and are meant to be protected forever.
These beachfront lands on Georgian Bay are worth millions of dollars and are owned by the people of Ontario, and are ecologically unique and important.
They exist to protect endangered species, sensitive ecosystems, and the natural spaces that connect our communities and shield us from climate disaster – not to benefit wealthy, well-connected developers.
Not only do these lands hold the best Piping Plover habitat in Ontario, but they also include Provincially Significant wetlands, "The Point", an Earth Science ANSI (Area of Natural and Scientific Interest), and mature sand dune ecosystems, which are ecologically important in their own right, as well as forming a protective barrier against high water and some of the effects of climate change, such as more frequent, more intense storm events.
Privatization of these lands is simply not necessary to support beach-related tourism re-development plans in the Town of Wasaga Beach, while being detrimental to the interests and environment of all Ontarians.
As an Ontario voter and citizen, i urge you to please:
1. Withdraw the proposal to sell off Wasaga Beach Provincial Park
2. Withdraw the proposed changes to the Provincial Parks and Conservation Reserves Act
3. Reinstate the Endangered Species Act and strengthen protections for the Piping Plover and other at-risk species
4. Keep Ontario parks in public hands forever
Protect the Piping Plovers and the habitats of all Species At Risk.
Protect Ontario’s parks in perpetuity.
