Hello,
I understand that the Provincial government wants to focus on development and growth, especially in light of tariffs coming from the United States. But this should not be implemented at the expense of at-risk species and habitat.
Bill 5 will cause the removal of recognition of more than 106 different species at risk, ranging from the Eastern Mole, Eastern Musk Turtle and Cougars, to the endangered Redside Dace, and Red-headed Woodpecker. These species are a sign of a healthy environment for humans and the natural world. Once they are gone, they will never return.
By removing provincial recognition of endangered and threatened birds and fish, the government of Ontario will no longer protect species and habitats that were previously protected under provincial habitat regulations and the Ontario Species at Risk list. This is wrong!
This government should deny the approval of permits that would allow harmful development projects to destroy critical habitat. There are areas for development that are available in the GTA. We should have smart and sustainable development.
Thank you!
