-First, I'm happy that MTO is finally viewing transportation in a broader sense; it's not just cars and trucks.
-Please involve knowledgeable and experienced cyclists(and organizations in the planning and implementation phases. Our community (Huntsville) has only a few bike trails to begin with. The ones we have seem like semi-baked initiatives that are short, isolated, disjointed, end abruptly in the middle of nowhere and are interrupted by curbs, parking spaces and other barriers. Our only paved shoulder is too narrow. and pretty consistently covered in gravel.
-I'd like to see dedicated trails or at least wide paved shoulders between residential areas and the local schools. This will help to create a culture of active transportation.
-Connectivity between main shopping areas and residential areas is important.
-A "main route" through the centre of town is important.
-Signage and education programs for drivers and cyclists regarding safe practices would be helpful. Few know the rules of the road.
Thank you for this initiative.
