The City of Niagara Falls is supportive of the Ontario Cycling Strategy to promote active transportation. Through the 2011 Sustainable Transportation Master Plan, a commuter and a recreational cycling network was developed and the City has been working actively to complete the on-road and off-road network. We are glad that the Ministry is recognizing critical missing links in the local infrastructure due to provincial barriers and look towards the strategy to address these opportunities for new and existing infrastructure primarily where retrofitting is required.
City Staff have been working with Ministry Staff for the past 6 months to resolve a critical missing link impacted by a physical barrier on the 10km Millennium Recreational Trail which travels the length of the City. Funding and internal collaboration within the Ministry to review and approve projects such as the Millennium Recreational Trail will allow for the completion of providing a continuous cycling network.
Supportive policy and funding for projects that include cycling is an integral part to each municipality's support stream to ensure active transportation is implemented within our transportation systems. Thank you for this opportunity to comment.
