I am a fan of bikes and bicycles. I am not a fan of bike lanes in the City of Toronto for a number of very good reasons:

1. First, we are a winter country, and bikes have no place on roads from December to April ;it's hard enough to get around even without the presence of bike lanes;
2. In the whole time I have lived in Bloor west village I've only seen a handful of cyclists in the bike lanes. What I do see are "Tour de France types" cycling in herds in the MIDDLE of Bloor or the Queensway on their early Saturday and Sunday morning rides. I've also NEVER seen a single cyclist on Scarlett road when I lived near to there for almost 10 years. Why take up lane traffic for the occasional cyclist, and when cycling as a mode of transportation is not a viable option in a winter city? Please use reason and logic here.
3. Cyclists can easily use residential roads. And if you're an Uber cyclist, even better of them, and also truly Uber bikes need to be taken away as they are a risk to the cyclist who is often from a 3rd world country and a member of a marginalized group and has no idea of the dangers on our roads, because he/she is desperate for cash. Remove the delivery bike altogether - and pressure Uber to find safer ways for their delivery workers to deliver!
4. Cycling should be a pastime and if you want to make it a main mode of transportation then rethink bike lanes to pass through residential roads, but frankly, given the winter conditions perhaps it's just not feasible. How about pour more money into better modes of alternatives such as more trains, more subways, more EASY public modes to get us around. No one, sadly, has their act together and when one visits a country such as Sao Paolo, one thinks this is a sophisticated place, and Toronto is on the fast descent on all fronts.
