The implication that increased car capacity will decrease air pollution is incredibly misleading; "Traffic and congestion are a major source of air pollution especially in urban areas." If the goal of this government is to reduce air pollution, especially in urban areas such as the GTA, then the goal should be to reduce the overall number of cars on the road, regardless of relative traffic congestion. In order to accomplish this, the province should be making alternative modes of transportation more reliable, accessible, and safer for the people of Ontario. This bill does the exact opposite; it encourages more car traffic at the expense of safe bicycling and directly hinders the reliability of public transit. By inducing the demand for cars, the result will inevitably be more traffic, which buses and streetcars are forced to compete with. This bill prohibits the creation of space for bicycles and public transit at the expense of cars, which is directly at odds with the stated goal of this bill to "fight delays".
