I love cars. I own more than my fair share and couldn't live without. But this is a preposterous proposition that stands against the interests of the people. It is anti-evidence virtue-signaling to a minority, and backwards-looking, view.
I am lucky enough to have travelled extensively with my work in the past 10 years. In my experience, the best cities on this planet are building walkable, community-friendly infrastructure, minimizing the impact of automobiles in high-density areas. In the past year, I have been to great cities like Dublin, Melbourne, Madrid, Lisbon, and Liverpool. The best parts of the those locales are incredibly pedestrian/bicycle friendly and they are packed with people enjoying the city - eating, drinking, shopping, reading and exercising. The quality of life is striking. When visiting these new places, I am constantly perplexed at the American approach to urban infrastructure. Why can't we do this in Toronto?!! I rented a car in every one of those cities and had zero issues getting around.
I love Toronto. I yearn for some enlightened leadership to see it's potential and to transform the city into one of the best in the world. Bill 60 is not it. It is the antithesis.
Bill 60 is the antithesis of transformative leadership, evidence of a rearward-looking administration. We only need to open our eyes and minds and look at some of the great examples already thriving around the world.
But further, not only will Bill 60 not make things better. It will make things much worse.
Bill 60 will make roads more dangerous, resulting in more injuries and deaths.
Bill 60 will worsen traffic congestion, contrary to the government's own studies.
Bill 60 will remove the cities' ability of self-determination.
Bill 60 will lower quality of life.
How is it that I have to spend my morning explaining any of this? Use your head. We voted for this admin to fix stuff and improve quality of life. I see scant evidence of this.
Respectfully, who does this admin work for? Because it's not me.
