Evidence shows that adding lanes of car traffic only work temporarily. Induced demand from additional lanes result in more people driving (and contaminating the environment) due to the perception that traffic has improved. Studies show that traffic does not improve in the long term.

Bikes on the other hand, are good for people, they reduce the strain on our health resources because of the health benefits of biking and they move people quicker. If you don't allow for a world-class, growing city to have multiple options for transportation and new, quick bike lanes, you'll end up with more cars on the road, more congestion and more CO2 in our environment.

Every bike you see out there, including myself, could be another car creating traffic. Get us off the road and into bike lanes and ACTUALLY keep people moving.

Also, bikes sharing more roads with cars can be deadly for cyclists and difficult for drivers, so keeping both separated works better and lead to less collisions and deaths on the road (for cyclists).

Plus, the provincial government should worry about provincial matters and not municipal affairs.
