I strongly oppose the proposed boundary changes and consolidation of Ontario’s conservation authorities. These changes are not administrative improvements — they are a direct threat to Ontario’s natural heritage, wetlands, and endangered species.
Reducing and merging conservation authority boundaries will weaken oversight, create jurisdictional confusion, and make it easier for development to occur on ecologically sensitive lands. Conservation authorities were created precisely to manage these complexities locally, with science-based decisions rooted in watershed management. Centralizing or consolidating these authorities removes that local expertise and accountability.
This proposal prioritizes short-term economic gain over the long-term environmental health and safety of Ontario communities. Flooding, habitat loss, and species decline are already increasing — dismantling conservation authorities will only accelerate these risks.
Ontarians deserve stronger protection for water, wetlands, and wildlife — not a system that makes it easier to pave over what’s left. I urge the government to withdraw this proposal and instead strengthen the authority, funding, and independence of Ontario’s conservation network.
