These amendments threaten the foundation of Canada’s conservation framework by prioritizing politics over protection. Species designation should remain in the hands of independent scientific bodies, not government actors with economic incentives. Removing 106 species from protection is not a neutral administrative action, it’s a calculated erasure. Every species on that list plays a role in its ecosystem, and stripping their status to fast-track industry is short-sighted, reckless, and irreversibly harmful.
