The proposal to centralize endangered species decisions within the government is a blatant conflict of interest. We cannot trust the same entity that approves extractive projects, highways, and deforestation to also determine which species deserve protection. This is the equivalent of putting the fox in charge of the henhouse, except in this case, it's the planet’s most vulnerable lives at stake. Scientific integrity must remain separate from political convenience.
