Choosing to implement the species conservation act after the repeal of the endangered species act is incredibly harmful to ecosystems in the province we call Ontario. These changes are performative and just overall not enough when measured against the repealed endangered species act.

What the Ontario government is doing is shameful, disappointing, but not surprising. It makes me ashamed to be an Ontarian.

Bill 5 has threatened long-term sustainability efforts in the name of the economy. Our endangered species are and will pay the price if the species conservation act is put in place of the endangered species act. They are not the same. They are different things and are not putting the same protections in place and pretending that they are the same is at best dishonest and at worst intentionally misleading, which again, from the Ford government isn't surprising.

I call on you to bring back the endangered species act instead of moving forward to amend the species conservation act. Or do both, both would be good too.
