It is absolutely outrageous, that a government that has abdicated its responsibility to set and update climate targets and that is trying to amalgamate the very conservation authorities that protect Ontario from flooding by restricting development in areas with inappropriate drainage, is also trying to eliminate endangered species from the endangered species list. Apparently it's not enough that our government is endangering these species through MZOs, and the use of Bill 5 to declare areas, deemed by the developers through the government, as Special Economic Zones. Apparently this government also feels it needs to gaslight us all, by pretending species like the red-sided dace, the piping sandpiper and the redheaded woodpecker aren't endangered, because of course if they aren't endangered, then the government doesn't have to protect them, right?

Not only should these species remain on the endangered species list, but the government also needs to repeal bill 5 and listen to conservation authorities that know far more than any Johnny-come-lately minister about what is and isn't environmentally sustainable.

Protection of the environment is sound, long-term economic strategy. Destroying wetlands for a logistics fulfillment centre that may last 10-15 years is foolish policy, as the long term cost to the people of Ontario are far higher than any potential short term profit.

If this government needs legislation to clear itself of its legal responsibilities, maybe we don't need them at all. Maybe they should step aside and let a party lead that is willing to plan for the future.
