To remove 106 species from the endangered species list is not only deranged in a world currently facing ecological collapse, but also such a clear move to satisfy the bottomless greed of the Premier and his friends. Canada is defined by its wilderness. Not by endless concrete, chain retail stores, and stretches of useless highway. That list stands between Ford and whatever soulless development is next on the horizon. What do we want our legacy to be? Since the people in power seem obsessed with traditional questions of posterity. What will be the legacy? The ghosts of our forests? Our children choking on polluted air? Only drawings of species left that used to roam free? Or can it be something beautiful? A commitment to a greater harmony with nature. Expanding not collapsing protections to vulnerable species. Just because Douglas Ford and his band of sycophants we refer to as the Ontario government can’t recognize the value of natural beauty, doesn’t mean other Ontarians can’t. The Ontario government does not have a mandate to rape and pillage the natural landscape of this province. Keep your hands to yourself, and off the endangered species list. Dig deep, and find your sense of decency.
