Thank you for your mindfulness of all road users. I would like to express my strong disapproval of Bill 60's implications for bike lane reductions. An increase in active transportation infrastructure (like bike lanes) has been proven to reduce traffic by offering commuters alternatives to cars. Cars are the least efficient form of transportation from a volumetric perspective; they are responsible for clogged lanes.
By removing alternatives to car transport, Bill 60 will increase vehicular traffic and will negate any effects gained by adding a lane to roads. Bill 60 will not achieve its end of increasing traffic flow; instead, it will remove life-saving safeguards for cyclists and other active transport users, putting the lives of Ontarians at risk.
Bike lanes privde autonomy for those who cannot drive; children, older adults, those who cannot afford cars.... Prohibiting safe bike lanes reduces access to spaces without a car, and traps Ontarians who should have equal access to the places where they live.
Thank you for your mindfulness to all road users. Bill 60 is not of benefit to any road users: prohibiting further bike lane development negatively impacts cars, as well as cyclists, pedestrians, and public transit users.
