I am a resident of Thunder Bay District, and I feel as though the boundary merging proposals for Huron-Superior RCA, combining the LRCA in my area with those from a more southern-Ontario area on Lake Huron, is not the best plan of action for my district. As with most elements of law and politics and legislative action in this province, the north shore and Thunder Bay often do not get the special and unique consideration that they deserve (considering our location and relative isolation from the busy Southern Ontario at the other end of the province). Combining two very different watersheds across the Great Lakes system might result in the LRCA section getting overshadowed by southern ontario priorities. My worst fear for the LRCA would be to see our watershed getting under-prioritized and underfunded, leading to degradation of the ecosystem and more. I feel as though the northern-ness of the Thunder Bay District should be taken into consideration when zoning for RCAs, meaning the LRCA should logically be merged with other Northern areas for more relevant watershed management. As well, this would probably allow for more seamless communication and understanding between regions.
