This proposal appears to be another attempt by the provincial government to lessen environmental regulations to make it easier for developers to get approvals. CAs have done an important job of not only protecting watershed functions but also other environmental services such as wetland restoration and documenting natural heritage features in their watersheds.
The new proposed CA boundaries are enormous. I fear that knowledge of local conditions will be overlooked when decisions are made from distant centralized locations. If CAs need to be consolidated then perhaps doubling them up, but going from 35 to 7 is extreme.
Why is this government so intent on changing things that are working well?
