The new proposed reorganization of the conservation authorities with respect to the Lakehead Conservation area amalgamating with rural Southwestern Ontario (Huron region) does not make sense reflecting on the vast geographic distances between the two groups. It would seem to make more sense to amalgamate Lakehead Conservation with the other conservation areas in Northern Ontario (ie. Northeastern Conservation area).

The areas in Northern Ontario are unique not only in geography, but population density and the vast geographic distances between urban and conservation areas. Policies and governance driven by an office based in Southwestern Ontario is going to under-represent the concerns and priorities in the Lakehead Conservation area. Whereas if the Lakehead area was represented by a centralized office in Northeastern Ontario that would better align with advancing their mission and strategic direction.
