I live in Belleville Ontario and regularly use my local conservation areas for hiking. I also turn to them for information on flooding and droughts. In my experience local Conservation staff are in the best position to provide this expertise about the area that they live in.
I don’t think amalgamation is a good idea but if it happens it’s important that there are still local staff in each community. Staff need to live in the watershed that they manage.
This was very important during the flood in Foxbori where local staff worked around the clock.
I don’t want my local rural watershed managed by someone in Toronto or some other far away area. Given the fires and floods we need more local Conservation staff not less.
