"If the new omnibus bill becomes law, corporate interests will succeed in setting every city in Ontario back by a decade: more cyclists and pedestrians will be killed by cars, and more carbon emitted on our roads will intensify climate change. And traffic won’t even get better." as reported in The Breach, Oct 24, 2025
As someone who regularly bikes for transportation in Toronto, I strongly object to this legislation that will make my life more difficult and dangerous, and achieve none of the objectives the government and corporate interests say it will. The government's own experts have reported this. Furthermore, by emphasizing driving over alternative modes of transportation (transit, cycling and walking), this government continues to work against established climate policy and is squandering the gains that were made in reducing emissions by previous provincial governments and local municipalities.
I choose to ride a bike so that I am not adding to congestion, I am not increasing carbon emissions and I am showing others that it is possible for a nearly 70 year-old to get around my neighbourhood, run my errands and go about the city safely by bike. Take away the network of protected and connected bicycle lanes and I will be forced to get into my car - increasing congestion and increasing pollution and depriving me of a healthy activity.
