I am adamantly opposed to Bill 60 - Fighting Delays, Building Faster Act, 2025. Prohibiting all Ontario municipalities from reducing motor vehicle traffic lanes when installing, implementing or marking new bicycle lanes, is a gross overreach that assumes the problems of congestion in Toronto apply to all other cities in Ontario. The Premier is once again failing to appreciate that Ontario is not Toronto. People who drive in Toronto and complain because there are too many other people driving in Toronto need to look in the mirror. And the Premier, instead of repeating the same old trope, that more car lanes will ease traffic, needs to acknowledge the research on "induced demand" - more lanes lead to more cars which lead to more congestion. The viable solution is to invest in and support alternatives, such as public transportation and bicycles. Bicycles are efficient, they are healthy, environmentally sound, and they are an affordable option for low income people. Do not expand your war on bicycles to the entire province. Cities know what is best for themselves. Let them decide.
