This proposal goes against years of research and evidence in urban planning for safer cities. "Strong Towns" is an example of easily accessible literature that backs this assertion. Give it a read.
Do not be fooled - this proposal is an excuse for propagating urban sprawl, car dependency, making neighborhoods less liveable, and funnelling tax payer money towards expensive road maintenance, loss of land to parking lots, and private companies that profit from the most expensive consumer good that most people will ever buy. Worst of all, it reinforces the antisocial and selfish culture apparent in car-dependent environments.
Just because Americans live in car dependent cities does not mean that we need to do the same. Listen to the subject matter experts on this topic. Think critically. I urge you not to proceed with this proposal.
