I strongly oppose the proposal to remove municipal powers over local transportation infrastructure. This goes against the principle that local government is best placed to address local issues, and I can think of no good reason why routine road planning should require provincial approval.
Furthermore, trying to pass this legislation after Bill 212 was challenged in the courts reduces my confidence that the provincial government is seriously trying to address Ontarians' transportation needs, and is instead trying to advance an ideological agenda against transit and cycling in Toronto.
For the sake of both effective transport policy and strengthening Ontarians' faith in our provincial government, I strongly urge the province not to proceed with these amendments.
