Bill 60 represents a dangerous step backward for Ontario’s transportation future. By prohibiting municipalities from reallocating car lanes for bike lanes or dedicated transit corridors, this legislation undermines decades of progress toward safer, greener, and more efficient mobility. Cycling infrastructure and mass transit are essential tools for reducing congestion, cutting emissions, and creating livable communities—yet Bill 60 locks cities into car-centric designs that ignore climate commitments and public safety. Stripping local governments of the ability to implement Complete Streets policies not only stifles innovation but also jeopardizes lives by denying residents safer alternatives to driving. Ontario should be building smarter, not faster at the expense of sustainability and equity.
