The Province has no business in the planning of municipalities, or having the ability to override the democracy of municipalities. Communities vote for municipal governments and communicate and negotiate with the municipal government about planning in their region(s) - the Province has no right step-in and take control whenever they feel like it at a municipal level.
Additionally, banning future active transportation infrastructure because it might remove a car-lane is also not the right of the province, and this proposed legislation appears to be nothing more that part of Doug Ford's pet-project of disenfranchising people who ride bikes in Ontario. Including such as ban has no business being in a "Fighting Delays, Building Faster Act Bill", it won't fight delays or build faster. It will however derail decades of planning in Guelph, the city in which I live and work, our Transportation Master Plan that includes our Vision Zero Action Plan - a road safety strategy to reduce the number of people killed and seriously injured on roads to zero.
We are in an affordability crisis, and the legislation in this Bill will strip residential tenants of most of their agency, and protections from unscrupulous landlords.
I am disappointed in this Bill, it is radical, harmful and an overreach. I demand a withdraw Bill 60 immediately.
